EPFO KYC Update: Link Aadhaar, PAN & Bank to UAN
EPFO KYC means linking your Aadhaar, PAN and bank account to your UAN and getting them verified. It is the single most common reason PF claims get stuck: without verified KYC, the EPFO member portal simply does not let you file an online claim. This guide explains what KYC involves, how to update it, and how to fix the mismatches that cause rejections.
What is EPFO KYC?
KYC (Know Your Customer) in the EPFO context has three parts:
- Aadhaar — your 12-digit Aadhaar number, verified electronically against UIDAI records.
- PAN — your Permanent Account Number, needed especially for tax-related processing of withdrawals.
- Bank account — the account where claim money will be credited; it must be in your name.
Each item has two stages: seeding (entering the details) and verification (confirming they are genuine). A claim needs all three verified.
Why it matters
EPFO made KYC mandatory for online claims to prevent fraud and misdirected payments. Practically, this means:
- No verified KYC → the claim form stays disabled on the portal.
- Wrong bank details → your money goes nowhere, or the claim bounces.
- Name/DOB mismatch with Aadhaar → Aadhaar verification fails and the claim is rejected.
How to update KYC — overview
Log in to the member portal
Open unifiedportal-mem.epfindia.gov.in and log in with your activated UAN and password.
Go to Manage → KYC
The KYC page lists document types. Select Aadhaar, PAN or Bank and enter the details carefully — exactly as printed on the document.
Submit for verification
Aadhaar goes for electronic verification against UIDAI. Bank details go to your employer for approval — follow up with HR if it sits pending.
Confirm verified status
Return to the KYC page later and check that each item shows as verified, not just submitted. Only verified KYC unlocks claims.
How verification works
- Aadhaar: verified electronically — your name and date of birth in EPFO records must match your Aadhaar exactly.
- PAN: verified against income-tax records; the name must match.
- Bank: your employer approves it in their EPFO employer portal. This is a manual step — it waits until someone at your company clicks approve.
Fixing mismatches
Most KYC failures come down to data mismatches. The fix depends on which record is wrong:
- EPFO record wrong (e.g. spelling differs from Aadhaar) → ask your employer to raise a correction; EPFO updates member details through the employer.
- Aadhaar wrong → update it at an Aadhaar enrolment centre first, then re-verify on the EPFO portal.
- Bank pending approval → contact your HR/payroll team and ask them to approve the KYC in the employer portal.
- Changed mobile number → update it through your employer; OTPs go to the registered number.
