EPFO Passbook: Check Your EPF Statement Online

Your EPF passbook is the official month-by-month statement of your Provident Fund account: every contribution your employer deposited, the interest credited, and your running balance. It lives on a dedicated EPFO website — the passbook portal — which is separate from the main member portal. This guide shows you how to access it and how to read what it says.

⚠️ Independent guide — not the EPFOUANHelp.in is not affiliated with the EPFO. We never ask for your UAN or password. Log in only on the official passbook portal (passbook.epfindia.gov.in).

What is the EPF passbook?

The passbook is EPFO's record of your EPF account, organised by member ID — you get one member ID per employer, and if you changed jobs without transferring, you will see multiple entries. Each statement lists monthly deposits (your share and your employer's share), withdrawals, and the interest EPFO credits each year at the rate it declares annually.

It is the single most reliable way to verify that your employer is actually depositing the PF deducted from your salary.

What you need

  • Activated UAN — your 12-digit Universal Account Number (how to activate UAN).
  • Registered mobile number — the mobile linked to your UAN, for OTP verification.
  • One-time registration — the passbook portal needs a separate registration; your member-portal password does not carry over.

How to check your passbook — overview

Open the passbook portal

Go to the official passbook website: passbook.epfindia.gov.in. This is EPFO's own site — check the address carefully.

Register (first time only)

Enter your UAN, name, date of birth and registered mobile number. Verify with the OTP sent to your mobile and set your passbook login credentials.

Log in and select the member ID

After login you will see your member IDs (one per employer). Select one to open its statement.

Review or download the statement

View month-wise entries on screen, or download the statement for your records.

🏛️ Official portal onlypassbook.epfindia.gov.in is the only official EPF passbook site. Never enter your UAN or OTP on lookalike websites.

Reading your statement

  • Employee share — the 12% deducted from your basic salary + dearness allowance each month.
  • Employer share — your employer's matching 12%, split between your EPF account and the pension scheme (EPS).
  • Interest — credited annually at the rate EPFO declares for that financial year.
  • Withdrawals / transfers — any amounts taken out or moved to another member ID appear as separate entries.
  • Balance — the running total across all entries for that member ID.

Passbook not updated?

Entries appear only after your employer deposits the contribution and files the monthly return with EPFO. If recent months are missing, the usual cause is a late return from your employer — not an EPFO error. Wait a few weeks, then follow up with your employer's HR or payroll team if the gap persists. If older entries are wrong, raise it with your employer first; they file the data EPFO displays.
