PF Balance Check: 4 Ways to See Your EPF Balance

There are four official ways to check your Provident Fund balance — and two of them don't need any login at all. Whether you want the full month-by-month statement or just a quick balance figure on your phone, this guide covers each method, what it needs, and which one fits your situation.

⚠️ Independent guide — not the EPFOUANHelp.in is not affiliated with the EPFO. We never ask for your UAN or OTP. Use only the official channels below.

The 4 methods

EPF passbook portal — full statement

Log in at passbook.epfindia.gov.in (one-time registration with UAN + registered mobile). Shows every monthly contribution, withdrawal and interest entry per member ID. Best when you want detail. See our passbook guide.

UMANG app — on your phone

Install the government's UMANG app, register with your mobile number, and open EPFO services to view your passbook and balance. Best for regular mobile checks.

SMS — no login needed

From your registered mobile number, send EPFOHO UAN (replace UAN with your 12-digit number) to 7738299899. You get the balance by reply SMS. Works only if your UAN is seeded with Aadhaar, PAN or bank details.

Missed call — no login needed

Give a missed call to 9966044425 from your registered mobile number. The call disconnects and you receive your balance by SMS. Same KYC condition as the SMS method.

✅ Numbers to rememberSMS 7738299899 with text "EPFOHO UAN", or missed call 9966044425 — both from your registered mobile only. If EPFO changes these numbers, the update will appear on epfindia.gov.in.

What you need

  • Your UAN — the 12-digit number (how to find and activate UAN).
  • Registered mobile number — the mobile linked to your UAN. SMS and missed-call methods work only from this number.
  • KYC seeded — for SMS/missed-call balance, your UAN must have Aadhaar, PAN or bank details linked.

Which method should you use?

  • Want full detail (every month's deposit, interest, withdrawals)? → Passbook portal or UMANG app.
  • Want a quick number without logging in? → SMS or missed call.
  • Changed jobs? → Check each member ID separately on the passbook portal; the quick methods may show only partial totals.

Balance looks wrong?

Before worrying, check these common explanations:

  • Recent months missing — entries appear after your employer files monthly returns. A delay of a few weeks is normal.
  • Multiple member IDs — if you changed jobs without transferring, your money sits in separate accounts. Add them up, or better, transfer old balances into your current account.
  • Interest once a year — EPFO credits interest annually, not monthly, so mid-year balances won't show the year's interest yet.
  • Still wrong? — raise it with your employer's payroll team first (they file the data), then with EPFO's grievance portal if needed.
